Statement of Interparty Council Of Qualified Opposition Parties of Georgia
19-07-2017

We, the representatives of the opposition political unions, once again express our clear position towards the process of the constitutional reform in Georgia:

In the democratic states of the world, during the implementation of constitutional reform, it is a recognized necessity to ensure wide political consensus.

Unfortunately, the similar process in our country developed diametrically differently, which ended with zero political consensus - the Parliament of Georgia adopted the draft constitution by two hearings with the support of only MPs from the ruling party.

After the protest of opposition parties and civil society and criticalstatementsof international community, have been made statements of high officials of Georgian government, in which they confirmed their readiness for consultations with opposition.

We declare that dialogue is the only way out of the political deadlock.Representatives of opposition political unions confirm our willingness to discuss all issues related to the constitutional amendments with the authorities.

First of all, we consider the most important are problems, related to electoral issues.

We hope that through a dialogue, consultations and compromises, through proper legal mechanisms, there will be achieved an important political consensus what is so much necessary for constitutional reform and for the reputation of the state.
